Many times, the animals I create take on life of their own! This wolf was no different. I let the animal emerge from the clay. I love to be surprised in the end. I love when I can imagine an entire conversation.
Raku is a special firing process involving oxygen reduction. After being bisque-fired, glazed with specially formulated glazes, then heated again to 1850°, this piece was tossed red-hot into a reduction chamber. Where the work was engulfed by hot flames, the color is different than the areas that were not touched. The process is chaotic and unpredictable, resulting in amazing, magical color combinations. This living surface will change with time. Keep this away from the sun to keep it as bright as long as possible.
