Collecting has always been an interest in our family. Growing up, we collected things we could find around us like rocks or feathers. I had a friend who collected butterflies. I always loved looking at her collections. As a young person, she learned to gather and mount them herself. Now, I make the bugs or the birds. I love making multiple iterations as an opportunity explore ideas and create a collection.
This bug was made with the raku firing process. It is shocking and unpredictable. The surfaces are living and may change over time, especially if exposed to direct sunlight.
